Policies

General Policies:

  • Hershey School of Dance will open 15 minutes prior to the first class of the day.
  • Hershey School of Dance places students by ability. Although we do our best to keep "friends" together, our focus is on developing our dancers' potential for advancement.
  • No gum, food or beverages are allowed in the studios, however, water bottles with secure lids may be used. Cell phones MUST be turned off!
  • Parents may observe ONLY on designated visiting days in December and March. See calendar for specific dates.
  • Whenever the Derry Township School District closes early or cancels classes due to inclement weather, HSD will also be closed. Go to our Facebook page for cancellation announcements.

Dress Code:

Please observe the following dancewear requirements for ALL dance classes:

  • Because our studio is located near a hotel and a shopping center, we strongly encourage all dancers to wear a "cover up" when walking to and from our building.
  • Hair should be worn off the face and neck.
  • No jewelry may be worn in class.
  • Any student who does not adhere to the dress code will not be able to participate in class. Dress code may be altered at the instructor's discretion.
  • Boys may wear long gym shorts or sweat pants and a t-shirt for all classes.
  • Please see specific attire requirements included with our class descriptions.

Attendance:

Parents and students are reminded that attending class on a regular basis achieves the best results. Teachers consider attendance along with attitude and ability to determine the appropriate level of dance. Teachers will notify students of alternate class times in order to make up missed classes. Students who consistently miss class or fail to make up class may be demoted to a lower level or dropped from a class at the teacher’s discretion. Teachers also reserve the right to reset choreography based on absenteeism. (Classes can not be made up after March 1 due to show preparation.)

Injury Policy:

  • Teachers of Hershey School of Dance have the right to verbally and physically correct a student's body alignment to the best of their ability and within the student's physical capabilities.
  • If a student is absent from classes due to an injury (sustained at the studio or not) for more than two weeks, it will be at the teacher's discretion whether or not they may return to class at the level they were assigned prior to the injury.
  • Following an injury, no dancer will be allowed to participate in class (they may sit and watch) until the school's director receives a signed note from the student's healthcare provider stating the dancer has permission to return to their regular physical activities. Extended periods of absence or inability to participate may result in the student being withdrawn from classes for the remainder of the year.
  • All teachers will inform the school's director of any injuries that take place in their class and all further communication will be between the director and the parent(s) of the injured student.
